In the first three months of 2011 exports totaled $46.7 million, 46% more than in the same period of 2010.
Supported by the FTA, Nicaragua has sold Asian markets a total of $12 million worth of products in the first quarter of 2011, according to a report by the country's Center for Export Prodedures (Cetrex).
"Last year Nicaragua sales to the country were worth $86.6 million, representing growth of 146% on 2009. Five years ago Asia only generated $33 million worth of export sales, according to the Nicaraguan Central Bank (BCN in Spanish)," reports Laprensa.com.ni.
In Taiwan Nicaraguan businessmen closed deals on meat, coffee, seafood and other products, worth a total of $14.2 million.
According to the ambassador of Taiwan in Nicaragua, Y.W. Hsing, during the fair, which was held in June, Nicaraguan food products received more than 120 visits."Their products had a very satisfactory reception with our consumers," he said.
Sugar, coffee, fishmeal, plastics and paper products are the best selling products to the Asian island.
According to the Taiwanese Embassy in El Salvador during the first 11 months of 2013, exports from the Central American nation to Asian countries grew by 576 %. Among the products that are exported to Taiwan are sugar, coffee, fish meal, paper, cardboard, plastics.
