New Date for Convention Center Tender

The original tender documentation has suffered eight addenda and the Tourism Authority has had to make several clarifications to the text, postponing the bid opening for August 20.

This is the third time that the Tourism Authority has postponed the date for receipt of proposals.

The project, costing between $140 and $160 million, has attracted interest from around twenty companies.

"The new convention center is one of the government's ‘unforgivables’ and should be ready for the first quarter of 2014", reported Prensa.com

Tender for Convention Center Postponed

May 2012

The Tourism Authority of Panama has postponed a tender for the construction of the Convention Center, in the amount of $60 million, until 11 July 2012.

The submission of bids for the award of the new convention center in the area of Amador, which was to be held on May 29, 2012, has been postponed until July 11, 2012.

Auction of Atlapa Convention Center Postponed

August 2013

The Panama Tourism Authority has changed the date of the auction which was to be held this August 1 to August 7.

Prensa.com reports: "For those interested in participating in the auction, the starting price is $123.3 million, they must submit their proposals at least two business days prior to the public meeting and during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm, that is, until Monday August 5 ".

Tender for Convention Center Postponed Again

August 2012

This is the fifth time that the opening of tenders for the construction of the Amador Convention Center has been changed, this time being postponed until August 31.

This time the reason given by Solomon Shamah, administrator of the ATP, is that the specifications indicate in some place the Balboa as the reference currency instead of dollars as it should be.

The performance bond has been reduced to 50% and the guarantee of access to financing reduced from 100% to 50% of the amount bid.

The Tourism Authority of Panama announced via its website PanamaCompra a reduction of both the percentage of the bond and the amount of financing.
