New Customs System in Panama

The Integrated Customs Management System will start operating from July 7, which should enable swifter transit of goods and more effective controls.

Monday, May 28, 2012

"The system abbreviated to SIGA in Spanish, will begin operations in Panama next July (7)," said Dr. Gloria Moreno de Lopez, Director General of the Customs Authority.

The installation of SIGA has cost about $9 million.

Thebulletinpanama.com reports that "This system allows access, sharing of more information and to get higher productivity. The previous system did not distinguish between types of users, and was very vague in description of the operations performed. In this system, there is recognition of a difference in the type of operation performed, transit, final destination, type of user and, above all, said Sanchez, the nomenclature to designate certain products, speeding up the process, eliminating bureaucracy."
