Luis Velázquez thus becomes the fifth economy minister during the government of President Alvaro Colom.

Armando Flores, until recently the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, has replaced Hector Dada Hirezi.
Ricardo Hesmahán has taken over from Yolanda Mayora as economy minister of El Salvador. Mayora resigned to take up the post of secretary-general of the Secretariat for the Economic Integration of Central America (SIECA).
