Stephanía Calderón, Wendy’s marketing manager, explained that they expect to open two restaurants in 2010, one in September and the other by yearend.
While Chili's and Buffalo Wild Wings open their first branches in Costa Rica, the established Applebee's, Subway, Quizno's, McDonald's, KFC and Teriyaki have increased their investments.
The opening and remodeling of restaurants, the closing of others and the entry into the market of new competitors is shaking up the market.
In the last two years the supply of fast food restaurants has doubled, and now oversupply is being noticed in a decline in sales, which have fallen by 10%.
There are at least 15 Costa Rican restaurant chains where burgers are the highlight dish on the menu.
