Francisco Brenes, project chief, reported that the participating companies are "Degremont", "Acciona Agua" and "FCC Construción".

Costa Rica Seeks $50 Million for Sewage

March 2009

Costa Rica is negotiating a $50 million loan with the IDB for the construction of a sewage treatment plant.

Ricardo Sancho, president of the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA) of Costa Rica reported that the institute is holding discussions with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), seeking to ensure funding for the plant which will serve 1.6 million customers.

Companies To Bid for Water Treatment Plant

The 3 companies preselected to bid for the construction of a water treatment plant in Costa Rica must submit their proposals before May 7.

They are Degrémont, from France, and FCC and Acciona Agua from Spain.

The state run company Acueductos y Alcantarillados has announced it will install 165 kilometers of pipes for sewage treatment in neighborhoods to the south and north of San Jose.

The Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers estimates that it will take one and a half years to complete the installation of 165 kilometers of pipeline, through which sewage will be transported to a treatment plant in Los Tajos in La Uruca.

Panama Invites Bids for Sewage Treatment Plant

On April, authorities will invite bids for conducting a feasibility study for building a water treatment plant in Colón.

Representatives from Idaan, the National Sewers Institute, commented that if the project turns out to be feasible, they would proceed to invite bids for its construction.
