Consumption Doesn´t Drop in Panama

Until April of 2009, tax collections on consumption has increased 18.3% compared to the same period of 2008.
The Property and Services Transfer Tax (ITBMS), commonly know as the 5%, is a net tax on consumption.

Cindy Calderón gathers the comments of the economist Aristides Hernández, who is from the firm Latin Consulting, in an article in Pa-digital.com: “…consumption continues to rise as the crisis hasn’t affected the domestic economy. The crisis has only affected exports, the Free Trade Zone and the banks...not as much in domestic activities.”
