Tender for Toll Management in San Pedro Sula

Municipal officials will next week issue a tender in which companies can submit bids to operate toll booths.

The requirements of the tender state that the contractor will have to invest in upgrading the existing technology in order to generate an increase in earned income.

"Currently the mayor San Pedro Sula receives approximately nine million lempiras per month ($473,000) from toll booths and the modernization of these is expected to cause revenues to increase. In addition, employees who are work in the booths will stay on in their positions work, but will be supervised by staff from the company that wins the tender for the project", reports Tiempo.hn

The Municipal Corporation of San Pedro Sula has approved the tender conditions for a project to modernize and organize collections management and control of toll booths.

Within the tender specifications is a requirement which states that the contractor will have to invest in upgrading the existing technology in order to generate an increase in earned income.

The company Servicios Eléctricos will be responsible for the systematic service, modernization and management of the collection from toll booths in San Pedro Sula.

The company will have to provide a monthly minimum of 9 million lempiras ($453,000) to the municipal coffers. Of the proceeds over this figure, 27.5% will be for the company and 72.5% for the Municipality.

The "Consejo Nacional de Viabilidad" will launch a public tender for the contracting of an automated system for toll collection.

By hiring the service, stations Florencio del Castillo and Braulio Carrillo will streamline the service and improve traffic.

"The contract would include structural improvements at stations, installation of equipment and software.

Plan to increase Canal toll maintained

The increase from $63 to $72 in the toll for Twenty-foot Equivalent (TEU) containers is scheduled for May 2009.

Prensa.com reports: "In 2007, it was agreed that the toll increase would happen in three stages and the plan still stands, said the administrator of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), Alberto Aleman Zubieta.
