Costa Rica leads Central America in its efforts to take advantage of the good conditions for wind energy in the region.
Conditions are even more favorable in Latin America than they are in Europe where wind power generation is extensive, clean and renewable.

In an article in Americaeconomica.com, Patricia Zvaighaft reports that “Latin America has an ideal situation for the development of wind energy. According to data from the Latin American Wind Energy Association (LAWEA), the region has a potential capacity to produce 200,000 megawatts of power. However, less than 1,000 megawatts are produced with this type of energy.”
